Anaheim Ducks goalie prospect John Gibson has de-committed to the University of Michigan, where he was scheduled to start his NCAA career in the fall.  The top-ranked North American goalie in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Gibson was selected in the 2nd round (39th overall) by the Ducks.

Gibson is following in the footsteps of Dallas Stars draft pick Jack Campbell, with startling similarities.  Both were ranked among the top goaltenders in their draft classes (Campbell was ranked second), played for the USNTDP, and were committed to playing for Michigan before opting to play in the OHL.  Gibson will head to the Kitchener Rangers.

By choosing to play in juniors, Gibson will have the opportunity to get much more ice time than he would in the NCAA.  For a young goalie with plenty of potential, this could be crucial for his development.
