The Anaheim Ducks have announced the signing of star RW Teemu Selanne to a one-year contract. The deal is reportedly worth $4 million.
Selanne, 41, has been taking his time to make a decision while waiting to see how his knee recovered from surgery.
Last year, Selanne scored 31 goals and 49 assists for 80 points in 73 games and ended the season with the third-most power play goals in the NHL (16). He was one of 15 players in the NHL to end the season with over a point-per-game average. His 80-point season ranks third highest among players over 40 years of age, behind Johnny Bucyk in 1975-76 (83 points) and Gordie Howe in 1968-69 (103 points).
Throughout his 20-year career, Selanne has amassed 637 goals and 703 assists for a total of 1,340 points in 1,259 NHL games. The Finnish Flash ranks 14th in all-time goals, 48th in all-time assists, 27th in all-time goals, and 6th in all-time power play goals (236). Among active players, Selanne is 2nd in goals, 4th in assists, and 3rd in points.
Selanne is the Ducks’ franchise leader in goals (410), assists (461), points (871), plus/minus (+123) power play goals (163), power play points (367), game-winning goals (69), and games played (774).
